This week, it’s turning much colder, so we’re doing more with soups. This includes my most-requested recipe of all, my de-carbed version of The Olive Garden’s Zuppa Toscana! And my second-most requested one: Pizza Stew, which is what I’ll often take to pitch-ins. We’ll have some more authentically Italian food, as well as a traditional American twist on pizza, and some French and Tex-Mex dishes. At the end of the week we’ll try to make room for holiday dishes. Bonus this week is holiday candy that is just like the sugared, glutened variety–no one will be able to tell [...]
This week, the bonus recipe is a gluten-free, sugar-free Christmas classic you won’t want to miss! We’ll continue Thanksgiving Recovery with a light main course salad with Greek flavors to start off. There’s a roast that comes back later in the week as a popular Asian dish, as well as a French-inspired use for leftover turkey (if you still have some). We’ll also do a little with Italy and Tex-Mex, as well as a dish with classic flavors from Spain. No one eating these recipes could guess that they’re not only gluten-free, but barely budge blood sugar levels! They’ll [...]
For the menu this week, I’ve included most of the classics people expect on Thanksgiving—the one exception is yam casserole, which is nearly impossible to do in a whole-foods, sugar-free way (and no one who really wants it is going to be satisfied with a Hubbard squash casserole instead). I have scheduled light meals for a couple of days leading up to Thanksgiving, with notes on things you can make ahead if you’re hosting it. Nearly everything for the rest of the week is very quick to make, because I assume you’re deep in Thanksgiving preparations. Alternately, if you’ve [...]
After having a cold snap in late October here, where we had to wear coats when sometimes we’re still in shorts, it’s finally been warmish the last couple of weeks. I was counting on getting to grill out a while longer, so my “barbecue quotient” was lacking for this year. So this week, we’re going to have an indoor barbecue in the slow cooker, using leftover pork roast with fall flavors that meld nicely into classic barbecue. We’ll also do more around the Mediterranean, hitting France and Italy. And my son is thrilled I have his favorite creamy, meaty [...]
This week, we’re pretty much done with grilling for quite awhile. It’s cold enough we’re going to have a hearty soup for one meal. We’ll be doing some good Mexican naked burritos, as well as some Italian and Chinese. We’ll also do some good country cooking, both like your French grandma used to make, as well as your New Englander grandma, if you had one. And your Jewish grandma. And your trendy(for a grandma) grandma from Seattle. If you had any of those kinds of grandmas. This text is available for purchase but you need to login or register [...]
This week we’re having a special seasonal “lasagne” with no noodles; and an Asian pot roast that will turn into Egg Foo Young later in the week. We’ll also hit the Catalan region of Spain and southern France, as well as the American Southwest. Bonus recipe is also seasonal: who wants a cookie, if you can have one with no wheat or sugar? This text is available for purchase but you need to login or register first. Don’t be alarmed if you see this and you’ve already paid. Make sure you’ve logged in if you have a [...]
It’s still warm enough to grill here once in awhile in much of the country, although it’s unseasonably chilly where I am, so this week there is a fun Asian-inspired meal you can make on whatever warm day you have. We also venture towards Greece this week with a traditional, pasta-less Pasticcio and hit each coast of the U.S. Bonus recipe is a tasty coconut-flour pound cake you can use as the base for all kinds of desserts, or ice with stevia-sweetened whipped cream to eat on its own.

In my area, the leaves are nearing the peak of color, and apple season is in almost over. My kids and I went to an apple orchard yesterday, and because of this summer’s early high heat and subsequent drought, the apples in some orchards were ripe so early they’ve all been picked! So I’m going to call a few area orchards today to see if anyone still has some we can *pick* instead of just buy. Fall gardens are at the peak as well, which is why I’m using a few spring items again that many people plant for [...]
It’s still nice weather here, although it’s starting to be pretty chilly at night. I notice that at this time last year, my trees weren’t yet changing, but this year they are! So this week, I have a couple of things on the menu you *could* grill, if it’s still warm where you are. But you could also do them on the stovetop or a tabletop grill. We’ll being doing our own little Oktoberfest using the slow cooker; a little with Mediterranean flavors; even a little trip to India mid-week. And then some classic but contemporary American dishes. If [...]
In this week’s menu, we’re dealing with the season changing from pleasantly warm (sometimes!) to being a bit chilly. So we’ll balance some grilling at the start of the week with some slow-cooked and roasted things later in the week. We’ll have a bit of barbecue and creole, some traditional American comfort food, with some French influence later in the week. My son’s reaction when I read him this week’s menu was “When are you going to make that, Mom? Can you hang the menu on the fridge?” This text is available for purchase but you need to login [...]
